ABOUT THE COMMUNITY ACTION NETWORK

Our Mission

To connect, empower, and activate individuals and organizations working for justice and sustainable progress in Washington County and beyond. We strive to strengthen social welfare, civic participation, and community voice through collective action.

Our Vision

The Community Action Network envisions a thriving, resilient community where people collaborate across differences to create positive, lasting change through local action.

Who We Are

The Washington County Community Action Network (WC-CAN) is a 501(c)(4) social welfare organization. We serve as a non-partisan hub for advocacy, coordination, and grassroots organizing. We seek to create a membership-based foundation of community support to ensure our organization effectively serves the needs of our region.

What We Do: The Community Action Center

Our work is centered at the Community Action Center, where we provide the "movement infrastructure" necessary for civic progress. By offering shared office space, meeting rooms, and professional resources, we lower the barriers to entry for local organizers and small organizations.

  • Shared Infrastructure: We provide access to desks, meeting rooms, and office resources to empower local efforts.

  • Civic Coordination: We act as a centralized location for campaigns, non-profits, and residents to collaborate toward common goals.

  • Fair Access: All resources and subscription tiers are established at or above Fair Market Value (FMV) to ensure compliance and organizational integrity.

Our Funding and Transparency

Washington Co. Community Action Network is supported by community members through an inclusive membership structure.

  • Individual Members: Residents contributing to the foundation of social welfare.

  • Organizational & Candidate Partners: Local groups and committees utilizing our hub for community progress.

  • Tax Disclosure: As a 501(c)(4), membership dues and contributions support our advocacy and organizing efforts. Please note that these payments are not tax-deductible as charitable contributions for federal income tax purposes.
